Giro d’Italia 2018 heads for the Langhe

If you’re into cycling, you will no doubt be aware that the route of the Giro d’Italia 2018 has just been announced, and that Chris Froome will taking part, but there’s a chance you might have missed the biggest news of all… Novello will be playing a starring role in this year’s race!

Mark 24th May, 2018, in your diary, as that’s the day Stage 18 of the Giro d’Italia 2018 is Langhe-bound.

The route will pass through Vignale Monferrato, home to Piemonte’s second-best English-speaking blogger Englishman In Italy, before continuing on to Alba and then, the highlight of the route, a hill climb up into Novello (a designated GPM climb no less)! While we don’t know the exact route the riders will take just yet, I think it’s safe to say my already poor Strava standings will be taking even more of a hit next spring!

After Novello, the race goes along the valley to Mondovi, via the Mondovicino shopping outlet (no, really!), at which point I imagine half the peloton will become permanently lost in the car park as that place is confusing, and then up into the mountains to finish in the ski resort of Prato Nevoso.

It’s going to be gooooooood!

  1. One way and one way only to know where they’ll pass: it’ll be the one stretch of road that’ll receive a fresh lick of tarmac this year. At least that’s how it goes for the road to Oropa, the immortal “salita Pantani”… Enjoy the snow!
